Winnipeg Jets vs. Minnesota Wild - 4/13/18 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Jets defeated the Wild 3-2 in Game 1 on Wednesday, the first victory in a playoff game in franchise history.

While an optimist might take solace in the fact that the Wild probably weren't supposed to win either road game to open the best-of-seven series against the Winnipeg Jets, a realist would say maybe they simply can't hang with the big, bad bullies from the north.

The fists began to fly in the final ten seconds of the game, but little could be done to curb the damage already done by Winnipeg. So, while I hate laying big juice in a hockey playoff game where the margin of error is so slim, I have to side with the Jets to take a 2-0 series lead.

If the Jets win, they'll be in complete control, but if the Wild win, they'll wrestle away home-ice advantage. During the regular season, in his career, he has gone 53-26 with a 2.50 GAA in his home games and 31-18 with a 2.23 GAA against the Central Division, while against the Wild he has gone 5-2 with a 2.52 GAA. There were a number of times where the Wild forwards were able to strip the Jets of puck possession or create turnovers of their own in the Jets zone. "It would be nice to go there with a split series". Now if they get caught up in trying to match the Jets physical play or a retaliation game then it could turn into a long night for the Wild.

It's important that they hold serve. Copp's goal came on Winnipeg's 35th shot of the game. "I felt good tonight and we'll try and continue that going home".

Because of his three assists and one goal so far this postseason, Guentzel is actually the player with the most points in the standings so far.

It's possible, though, the Wild changes up its look Friday.

To wit, let's take a look at five players who have already wowed us so far in the National Hockey League postseason.

"That's what they're best at, keeping us out of their slots".

The Jets did some things very well.

"Awesome to see a guy step in, new to the team a little bit, and have a huge effect", Jets captain Blake Wheeler said. He stopped 18 of 20 shots two nights earlier. "I don't think we played as well as we can". They are loud, they cheer and every time we score the first goal of the game they just don't sit down.

"We've got to play a lot better than we have in the first two", Parise said. "To have a little, I don't even know if you want to call it a Cinderella story of a night tonight, it makes you feel good. But we responded well".

Winnipeg will also be without defensemen Toby Enstrom, Dmitry Kulikov and center Matt Hendricks. Everybody else is game time. It can never be a culmination of many things that led to an end result.

"Momentum doesn't carry over from game to game in the playoffs", defenceman Josh Morrissey said. The team didn't look overwhelmed by the emotion and energy in the building.

Winnipeg Jets players congratulate Connor Hellebuyck after their victory in Game 1.

Six different players accounted for Winnipeg's first six goals in the postseason before Laine scored with 2:02 left for his second goal of the series. "But the ideal would be winning [Game 2]".

Winnipeg lost forward Mathieu Perreault in the third period to an upper-body injury.
