Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sumit Malim win CWG gold

India's wrestling stars Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat will be eyeing their second medals at CWG.

Gold Coast, April 14: Indian wrestler Sumit Malik claimed the gold medal in the men's freestyle 125 kg after his opponent Nigeria's Sinivie Boltic was ruled out of the final due to an injury at the 21st Commonwealth Games.

Vinesh Phogat thrashed Canada's Jessica Macdonald in the Gold medal match in 50kg freestyle.

She ended at the top of the standings at the end of the Nordic (round robin) format.

Vinesh also won the bronze medal in the women's freestyle 51 kilogram category at the 2013 Asian Wrestling Championship and clinched gold in the 48 kilogram category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Another Indian hope Somveer also won bronze by beating Canada's Alexander Moore 7-3.

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra wins gold medal. This was India's 22nd gold at the Gold Games Games.

Mary Kom defeated Northern Ireland's Kristina O'Hara 5-0 in the women's 45-48kg category to bring home the Gold. The first medal up for grabs will be the women's hockey bronze medal for which India will be playing Olympic champions England. Mary completely dominated O'Hara. Then comes the finals of men's 46-49 kg, men's 52 kg and 60 kg which will feature Amit Panghal, Gaurav Solanki and Manish Kaushik. This ensured that Vinesh would get a shot at Gold in this year's CWG to redeem herself after the disappointment she endured in Rio.
