ABC Renews Marvel's AGENTS OF SHIELD For Sixth Season

Although ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won't air new episodes until summer 2019, fans can rest assured that the long wait doesn't mean the end of the show is in sight.

Of course, the renewal is a bit of a mixed blessing, since it only included a 13-episode order, far shorter than the standard 22 that the show enjoyed throughout its first five seasons.

And while a shortened season and pushed back premiere date suggest the series might be on its last leg, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey says don't prep that TV obituary just yet.

When Agents of SHIELD season 6 comes on the air, it's going to be a little bit later than you would have imagined: Think summer 2019.

However, now it's learned it's looking likely the series will not having anything to do with The Avengers: Infinity War movies or Captain Marvel. That leaves the door wide open for Agents of SHIELD to connect with with Marvel Cinematic Universe once again. Guess we'll see if that happens in the finale and in the next season.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows an elite group of agents who investigate unusual occurrences. Executive producer Jeff Bell told EW that they thought this season would be it: "Right now, we're writing a series end because as far as we know, this could be it".

"What we've discovered is that we have a very loyal and passionate fan base for S.H.I.E.L.D". The second half of Season 5 had the team trying to prevent that future from happening by fixing the present.

Against all odds, it was recently learned that ABC has renewed Marvel's Agents of SHIELD for a Season 6, with its Season 5 finale airing this Friday.
