Are Israel and Iran inching closer to war?

"Or do we want to say we have our economic interests, we consider we will continue to do trade with Iran?".

"Their presence will only cause problems and damage". European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal was not a decision that could be taken exclusively by the U.S.

Syria blamed Israel for the Wednesday strikes that hit near the capital. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu flew to Moscow recently, as he has done many times before since Russia landed an expeditionary force in the Levant, and seems to have come home with a pledge from Russian President Vladimir Putin not to sell Russia's client state, Syria, more advanced air defense weapon systems than they already have.

Analysts based in Tehran deny Iran is seeking out direct conflict with Israel.

"The holy system of the Islamic Republic will step up its missile capabilities day by day so that Israel, this occupying regime, will become sleepless and the nightmare will constantly haunt it that if it does anything foolish, we will raze Tel Aviv and Haifa to the ground."
Israel fired dozens of missiles at what it said were Iranian positions in Syria on Thursday, hours after it said its forces in the occupied Golan Heights were targeted by Iranian rockets.

This chimes with statements by Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who refers to Israel as a "cancerous tumor" that should be cut out of the Middle East.

In 1982 Israel invades Lebanon to put an end to attacks from Palestinian groups based there.

Officially still at war with Syria, Israel claims to be trying to keep out of the country's internal conflict since it broke out in 2011. Now, with President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from it, Netanyahu may be emboldened to pursue his confrontation with Iran.

"Launches of about 20 missiles were registered at around midnight toward the frontier positions in the Golan Heights by Iran's al-Quds forces", an Israeli army spokesman told reporters.

In Yemen, the war in its fourth year is seen as a proxy between Saudi Arabia and Iran and can be a place for Tehran to retaliate and increase pressure.
