BlackBerry sends out invites for the launch of KEY2

Codenamed Athena, it's rumored to be called BlackBerry KEY2.

Announced on Twitter on Friday, BlackBerry will host a launch event on June 7 in NewYork at 10am ET (7:30pm IST) to officially announce the BlackBerry KEY2. The unveiling will take place in NY at 10am on the aforementioned date. The branding of KEY2 is pretty interesting, with new Blackberry KEY2 logo with a numeral "2" rather than two spelled out, like the company did with KEYone. The TENAA listing shows the pictures of the upcoming device.

Based on what we've heard so far, we're expecting a dual-lens camera on the back of the device, and of course a proper keyboard that you can mash your digits into. Also, a few leaked images provided a closure look at its design and highlight all the key differences between the BlackBerry KEYone and its successor. KEY2 was recently also spotted on Chinese certification site TENAA.

In truth BlackBerry has been attempting to revive its traditional-looking, physical keyboard phones to compete with Samsung, Apple, Google and the rest for years now - remember the 2014 BlackBerry Classic? let's hope they can get it just a little bit more right this time around.

The BlackBerry KEY2 is expected to feature a QWERTY keyboard with gestures as well as a multitouch-supported display which is expected to come with 3:2 aspect ratio. The TENAA listing also hints that the BlackBerry Key2 will come with 4G LTE along with dual-SIM support. The phone will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform; the sequel will have 6GB of RAM, twice the amount that came with the first generation KEYone.
