CBS' Murphy Brown Revival Will Be Taking on Cable News

"Murphy Brown" returns to CBS this fall.

In the new preview, the series' original actors, Candice Bergen, Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud, reprise their Murphy Brown characters for "Where Are They Now?"-style interview telling viewers where their lives have taken them since leaving FYI-and how they have chose to reunite for a new news program". We think we've accomplished that with this slate of new shows.

CBS seems to be embracing a programming philosophy best described by the phrase, "Everything old is new again". Jay Hernandez plays the 2018 model of Thomas Magnum, the private investigator that "Blue Bloods" star Tom Selleck portrayed for CBS in the 1980s. "The Neighborhood" stars Cedric the Entertainer and Max Greenfield ("New Girl"), and "Happy".

The season of "Murphy Brown" will include 13 episodes, and it will premiere in the fall on Thursday nights at 9:30 p.m., after "Mom".

From Emmy-winner Dick Wolf and the team behind Law & Order comes a drama about the inner workings of the NY office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

While Brown returns to the business looking to find the balance between good television and honest reporting, she's also looking to guide her son Avery (Jake McDorman) into the journalism industry as he looks to follow in his mother's footsteps. Nik Dodani plays Pat Patel, the director of technology for the FYI team's new show, and Tyne Daly is introduced as Phyllis, the sister of Phil (Pat Corley, who passed away in 2006), and the new owner of Phil's Bar & Grill. Miles is an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from God and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him. His curiosity piqued, he eventually finds his way to someone the "God Account" suggests (Violett Beane) and they "find themselves investigating God's friend suggestions and inadvertently helping people in need".
