CRPF man killed as militants escape from Pulwama gunfight

Sources said a fierce gunfight began after security forces, consisting of 55 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group and CRPF laid a search and cordon operation at Bargam village around 12.30am.

SSP Pulwama Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam also confirmed that two houses were damaged in the course of the gunfight.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Chinar Bagh, Mohalla Takiya, in Pulwama late on May 11 following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said. According to ANI, one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan has got injured in the gun-battle on Saturday.

Police said that the militants, taking advantage of the darkness, fled the spot. Officials said Ahmad suffered a minor injury following which he was hospitalised. "In the initial exchange of fire, one CRPF jawan, identified as J D Mandeep Kumar of 182 Battalion of CRPF, sustained injured and he later succumbed", a police spokesperson said, adding that the militants managed to escape in cover of the darkness.

The terrorists reportedly took advantage of the darkness in the area and managed to escape.

A mob threw stones at the forces a little distance away, forcing them to call off the operation apprehending an escalation.

As the joint security forces zeroed in on a house, where the militants were reported to be hiding, the militants resorted to indiscriminate firing.

A policeman was killed by terrorists during a weapon snatching bid in Budgam district on Friday. The militants fired at a guard post in Wadwan village, injuring constable Shamim Ahmad.
