Fischer wins GOP nomination in Nebraska

Lamb, who is running in the new 17th District, has no Democratic primary opponent and will meet Republican U.S. Rep Keith Rothfus, who now represents the old 12th District, in November.

In the new 1st District, Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick - one of the most endangered Republicans in this year's midterm elections - survived a primary challenge and is now set to face Democrat Scott Wallace, a multimillionaire who has spent $2.5 million of his own money on the race.

Four-time U.S. Rep. and former Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta cruised to a sizeable victory Tuesday in his bid for the Republican nomination, setting up a November contest against U.S. Sen.

The Republican congressman touted the accomplishments of President Trump and said Senator Casey used to be a do-nothing senator until Casey opposed Trump's tax cut and court and cabinet nominations.

Bartletta won the state party endorsement and is a favorite of President Donald Trump.

That's not exactly a huge margin for Barletta, a longtime congressman who had the explicit endorsement of the President - and who spent almost $2 million on the race to just $250,000 for Christiana.

Democrats will also pick a candidate in the 5th District, an area vacated by former GOP Rep. Patrick Meehan, where the Democrats are all but certain to make one of the 23 pickups they will need to take control of the House.

Barletta accused Casey of moving too "far left", and not being in line with the will of Pennsylvanians who support Trump's agenda.

"The contrast between Senator Casey and me could not be clearer", Mr. Barletta said. But strategists in both parties believe Casey, who has stockpiled almost $10 million for the campaign, has the advantage. Fischer is expected to face Lincoln City Councilwoman Jane Raybould, a Democrat, in the general election. Labrador is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and is regarded as one of the most conservative members of Congress.

Nebraska is a reliably Republican state.

Eastman defeated former Rep. Brad Ashford in Tuesday's primary election with a campaign that cast her as a champion of liberal ideals, including supporting a single-payer health care system. Guy Reschenthaler in the GOP primary for the deep-red 14th District in western Pennsylvania.

Several incumbent candidates who are seeking re-election, like Congressman Dwight Evans, have to fight for re-election in a new district because of the new map.

Casey was first elected to the Senate in 2006. Butch Otter. Idaho is routinely ranked as among the most Republican states in the nation.

Even Christiana, his Republican primary opponent, made a point of criticizing Barletta's immigration rhetoric.

Nebraska Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts faced a primary challenger, but he was favored to win his party's nod, as well as a second term in November.

OR is reliably Democratic.
