International Nurses Day celebrated in Nagaland

Banerjee in a tweet said, "Today is International Nurses Day".

Viewing that the right approach to health system needs to be responsive to both local and national priorities and be accessible to all, Longkumer expressed that when the right approach is achieved, the foundations are set in place for a healthy and equitable society.

He was addressing the International Nurses Day celebration gathering at the DBT hall, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, Saturday, which was held under the theme "Health is a Human Right".

Sister Anita Kumari Parida from Odisha working at Kalimela CHC in Malkangiri district was conferred prestigious Florence Nightingale Award as recognition for dedicated work done by her and compatriots on the frontlines.

According to the public relations officer of the hospital, Mohammed Abubakar, "Nurses play a vital role in the lives of people, and for this reason, we are celebrating our nurses and other nurses around the world".

"At present, there are 1.7 nurses per 1,000 people in India, and the world average is 2.5 nurses. But this number is not sufficient", the President said. He said, apart from curative health care there is need of nurses in the country for preventive and promotional health care.


Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda also congratulated all the awardees and tweeted, "I congratulate all the Awardees of the Florence Nightingale Award-2018, who have been honored with this prestigious award for their exemplary service & thank each one of you for your yeoman service & contribution toward patient care and well-being of fellow citizens".

"Any nurse, in a remote village, who is helping a person fight a serious illness, is a nation builder", President Ram Nath Kovind said.

The awards are given to outstanding nursing personnel employed with the Centre, States or Union Territories.

The health worker was also awarded as best Health Worker in the district earlier this year.

Lauding the Health Ministry for its efforts and initiatives in improving and enhancing nursing education in the country. The award carries '50,000 cash, a certificate, a citation and a medal.
