IPL 2018: Warm Delhi to host DD vs SRH clash

Batting first, Pant rescued the Daredevils from a precarious 2-21 to script a fine turnaround after both Delhi openers Jason Roy (11) and Prithwi Shaw (9) were lost off successive balls to Shakib Al Hasan in the fourth over.

Rishabh Pant on Thursday evening played a fearless knock of 128* runs off 63 deliveries to blast Delhi Daredevils faltering innings to 187 for five at the end of 20 overs.

It was a knock of two halves - one cautious in nature for the first 25 balls where he scored at run a ball while the remaining 38 balls produced close to 100 runs with boundaries to all corners of the field. Williamson was not far behind as he breezed to his sixth fifty-plus score of the competition. Pant literally toyed with the SRH bowlers.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's star batsmen Shikhar Dhawan played marvellous unbeaten 92 in 50 balls and skipper Williamson played 83 runs not out in just 53 balls. Delhi were tottering at 43/3 and also going at less than six runs per over and again the change in the opening partnership (Jason Roy replacing Colin Munro) didn't help the matters much and the continuing failure of the top order has been one of the reasons for Delhi's bad season.

Harshal Patel got rid of Alex Hales (14) early but after that Dhawan and Williamson played with great conviction to take their side to 191/1 with six balls to go. Pant hit some unorthodox lap shot in the last over bowled by India's pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar, scooping the ball over third-man for couple of sixers."I saw him (Pant) yesterday".

"But having said that consistency is important, hope it's not just one off". As a result, not once did Sunrisers find themselves playing catch-up.

Thanks largely to Pant, Delhi amassed 135 runs in the last 10 overs which helped them reach the total.

Disappointing for Delhi after Pant's century to end up on the losing side, but they were outclassed by two experienced campaigners.

The visitors overcame the challenging chase with visible ease to remain at the top of the table with an extension in their lead over second placed Chennai Super Kings. At the present moment, MS Dhoni is there.

Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson shared an unbeaten 176-run stand to overshadow a breathtaking hundred from Rishbah Pant as Sunrisers Hyderabad sailed into the Indian Premier League play-offs with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Delhi Daredevils here tonight.
