Iran's Rouhani congratulates Armenian PM on taking office

Armenian and Georgian prime ministers Nikol Pashinyan and Giorgi Kvirikashvili discussed the future perspectives of Armenian-Georgian relations after the Velvet Revolution in Armenia during a phone conversation on May 11.

Armenia's parliament elected Nikol Pashinyan as the country's new prime minister on Tuesday. "Armenian relations with the new government".

Putin was among the first foreign leaders to congratulate Pashinyan, who had vowed to pursue friendly relations with Russian Federation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expects that under the new Armenian government relations between Moscow and Yerevan will continue to develop just as robustly as before, TASS reports. "When the time is appropriate, I believe we should extend an invitation to the new Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, to come to the USA and meet with Congress".


Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has made all of the appointments to the country's new government, the president's office said Saturday, Sputnik reported.

Pashinyan confirmed, in turn, that Russian Federation and Armenia are strategic partners: "We are determined to give a new impetus to these relations in political, as well as trade and economic areas". The election capped several weeks of peaceful, primarily youth-led protests by hundreds of thousands throughout Armenia, which led to the resignation of former Prime Minister Serge Sargisyan, who had held the position for a mere six days.

According to the press statement of the Armenian government, the two PMs have agreed to meet in the near future.
