Liverpool confirm Fabinho signing

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has hailed Liverpool's £39 million signing of Fabinho from French side Monaco.

Liverpool have agreed to sign Monaco midfielder Fabinho in a deal that could be worth upwards of £40m.

But what can Liverpool fans expect to see from Fabinho?

Fabinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, also represents Jose Mourinho and it was thought that the Brazilian midfielder could end up at Old Trafford next season while Arsenal were also linked with the player.

"I am really excited about this move", Fabinho, who operates as a defensive midfielder, told the Liverpool website.

"This is something that I always wanted - this is a giant of a team", said Fabinho.

"We spoke a bit more about the infrastructure of the club, the city and we also spoke about the coaches and how they do their work so I was able to know a bit more about Liverpool through Firmino".

"He could boss the midfield as a number 6 - maybe taking Jordan Henderson's place - and that's where I think he should play".

Fabinho, 24, will join up with the Reds squad on June 1 when pre-season begins and arrives with a great deal of pedigree.

Jurgen Klopp played the pivotal role in enabling Liverpool to beat a host of Champions League rivals to the signature of Brazil global Fabinho.

"He has the ability and mentality to play at the highest level in a number of positions". I think he's very similar to Fernandinho, you know that slim build, he was part of that fantastic Monaco team a year ago that got literally dismantled.

"So you gain two, three players for one in Fabinho so I think it's a very smart move".

The Merseyside club announced the signing of the Monaco player on Monday for £44m, making him the third-most expensive signing in the club's history behind Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita. Breaking up play, reading the game and protecting his back four might be Fabinho's principal job but he can also play when he gets the ball.

"If I will sign somewhere before the World Cup?"
