Low pens new Germany deal drops 27-man provisional WC squad

Joachim Low has extended his stay as Germany head coach and named Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in his provisional squad for the forthcoming World Cup.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer makes the cut in the provisional squad after being out of action since September due to broken foot. We will be open and honest after the training camp, and without match practice, you can't go into a tournament.

But there is a notable absentee with World Cup final goal scorer Mario Gotze missing out.

DORTMUND, Germany (AP) - Germany included injured captain Manuel Neuer in its preliminary World Cup squad on Tuesday, and striker Nils Petersen was a surprise call-up.

Here is the full list of players called up by Germany for the World cup tournament.

The 32-year-old stopper has been sidelined for most of the past year after first breaking his metatarsal against Real Madrid for Bayern Munich in last season's Champions League.

Neuer, who hasn't played since September because of a hairline fracture in his left foot, was one of four goalkeepers to be selected as Germany coach Joachim Loew gives him every chance of proving his fitness for the tournament in Russian Federation.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos and Bayern Munich trio Mats Hummels, Thomas Mueller and Jerome Boateng are part of Germany's 27-man provisional list for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation.

They face Sweden in Sochi six days later before rounding off their Group F campaign against South Korea in Kazan.
