Overwatch's New Anniversary Event Kicks Off Next Week, Includes Free Weekend

It's official! The second Overwatch Anniversary Event goes live next week.

Overwatch's two-year celebrations will begin next week on May 22. The anniversary event is also introducing Competitive Deathmatch, giving players a chance to earn a rating and climb ranks.

Blizzard will be hosting a free weekend of Overwatch on PC, Xbox, and Playstation from May 25th to May 27th.

In addition to that, a ton of new content will be added to the game, including a brand new Deathmatch map called Petra, as well as new skins for all characters, and dancing emotes for Doomfist, Moira, and Brigitee.

However, it isn't yet known whether these items will be available to buy or if you'll have to be lucky with loot boxes.

It has been a couple of years since Overwatch was launched, and in the first year we saw Blizzard celebrate the game's first anniversary with a special in-game event. What's more, all previously released seasonal cosmetic items, and "most" of the prior brawls for Arcade (on a daily, rotating basis), will be back for the new anniversary event. It's called the Legendary Edition, and it will include a total of 15 skins (including Legendary, Epic and Origin skins) with your purchase.

Petra is the new deathmatch map, the second Blizzard has made specifically for the mode.

The event trailer also teased a new pirate skin for Junkrat. Some of these loot boxes will also be given out for free as well, one for everyone who plays during the event and another if you're willing to spend enough of your own money on the loot boxes.
