Steven Gerrard planning move for former Liverpool teammate

Allan McGregor, the Scotland goalkeeper who yesterday rejoined Rangers on a two-year contract, is determined to play his part in the rebuilding of the Ibrox club.

The veteran shotstopper becomes Steven Gerrard's second signing, following the four-year deal for Scott Arfield from Burnley. Torres, of course, built up a telepathic understanding with Gerrard during their playing days at Anfield but has started just six La Liga games this season.

However, the Scouser is desperate to add goals to his team and will turn to a Premier League legend to bring some attacking firepower to the blue half of Glasgow.

According to sources on Merseyside, Gerrard's tight relationship with Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp will enhance the likelihood of Rangers completing the Solanke deal.

Instead, the 36-year-old has made a decision to return to Rangers six years after quitting in the wake of the club's financial meltdown.

He joined Hull when they were in the Premier League and helped them qualify for the Europa League for the first time.

Preliminary talks are understood to have taken place with both forwards as Gerrard attempts to build a squad which he hopes will topple Celtic's dominance at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The former England captain is also likely to turn to former teammates to bolster his side ahead of a title challenge next season.

A host of players are being linked with moves to Ibrox thanks to the appointment of a big name in Steven Gerrard, and the new Rangers boss may look to a favour from former club Liverpool.
