Asia Argento 'beyond devastated' after Anthony Bourdain's death

"Anthony Bourdain was one of the greatest storytellers of our time, and most of all a friend, a friend to millions of viewers who never got to meet him", an emotional Stelter continued.

He had everything. Success beyond his wildest dreams.

The famed cook, writer and host of the CNN series "Parts Unknown" killed himself Friday in a luxury hotel in the ancient village of Kaysersberg, Christian de Rocquigny, the prosecutor of Colmar in France's eastern Alsace region, told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

Bourdain was born in New York City and raised in Leonia, New Jersey.

"I ate at Johnny Rockets in an airport once and it opened up an abyss of depression and self-loathing, a spiral of self-hatred, rage, and despair that lasted weeks", he told the publication.

Mr Obama wrote: "He taught us about food - but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together".

Bourdain and the Italian actor started dating in 2017 after meeting on the sets of the Rome episode of his show Parts Unknown. His girlfriend Asia Argento directed it, while cinematographer Christopher Doyle also worked on it.

"With a heavy heart, today we have lost one of the most talented and wonderful Chef today".

The renowned American chef was filming for "Parts Unknown" season 8 while the then president Obama was negotiating a deal with Vietnam that ended a ban on selling military equipment to Hanoi when the two met for the famous lunch at Bun Cha Huong Lien, a traditional roadside joint.

Brash and opinionated, Bourdain had spoken openly about his past drug use and heroin addiction.

"This wonderful couple is a danger to no one", Bourdain wrote in a Post column at the time.

Outside Les Halles, a French brasserie on Park Avenue in Manhattan, mourners left flowers and poured messaged of hope and sadness into notes about how the chef changed their lives. But you know, I also don't have that many regrets either.

Anthony Bourdain arrives at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 12, 2015, in Los Angeles.

The circumstances of Bourdain's death has led authorities "to suspect that not much preparation and premeditation went into the act, and leads us more in the direction of an impulsive act", the prosecutor said.

'Things have been happening, ' Bourdain said.

Reached by The Post, Bourdain's mother, Gladys, 83, a longtime Times editor, could barely speak. "We'll miss him", Obama tweeted. But in the same breath he also said that if you haven't been through that grind, you don't know what it is like to be in a kitchen. "And yet he was always kind of - to me, it always seemed like - even though he was very confident or seemed very confident, he was always I think - he was always - just winking at it all".
