Can Trump and Kim Bring an End to the Korean War?

Kim has the "opportunity" to make a deal with the U.S., Trump said Saturday, but he "won't have that opportunity again".

But even the merit of the event itself - long sought by the North, and which Trump apparently impulsively agreed to in March, reportedly without consulting his advisers - has been called into question.

"I think within the first minute I'll know" if North Korea is serious about a deal, said the president, who then touted his dealmaking abilities.

"It's a one time shot and I think it's going to work out very well", he said.

"He has an opportunity, the likes of which if you look in history, few people have ever had". "Well, I think very quickly I'll know whether something good is going to happen. And if I think it won't happen I'm not going to waste my time, I'm not going to waste his time". "I don't want to waste his time", Trump said.

Last year it carried out by far its most powerful nuclear test to date and launched missiles capable of reaching the USA mainland, sending tensions soaring to a level unseen in years as a newly-elected Trump traded threats of war and colorful personal insults with Kim, with Trump dubbed a "dotard" and Kim "Little Rocket Man".

Although the Trump administration has said that America's 28,500 troops in South Korea aren't bargaining chips in Singapore, there are persistent concerns - fueled by Trump's own comments - that he may waver.

Trump is expected to meet with Kim, the first such meeting between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader, on Tuesday at the luxury Capella Hotel.

"The people know these are all lies because it's obvious".

BEIJING-Singapore's foreign minister says it's "all systems go" for a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to be held in the Southeast Asian city-state next week.

The Southeast Asian financial hub has been bracing for the arrival of Trump and Kim - and thousands of reporters - next week, and has announced flight restrictions and police checkpoints around key meeting spots. It will certainly be an exciting day and I know that Kim Jong-un will work very hard to do something that has rarely been done before, create peace and great prosperity for his land. "I don't think Gen. Douglas MacArthur would like that too much".

The young leader has been swept to centre stage by two new props: his unprecedented nuclear capability and an unconventional U.S. president.

Trump expressed frustration that some analysts have said Kim already has bested him simply by getting him to agree to a summit, noting that the regime released three American prisoners last month.

Before Trump became president, Rodman appeared twice on his "Celebrity Apprentice" show and praised the billionaire real estate developer on Twitter during the 2016 presidential campaign.

He previously also made an appearance at the Winter Olympics in Gangneung in South Korea in February, bewildering North Korean cheerleaders who initially thought their leader had walked into a hockey stadium.

USA defence and intelligence officials have assessed the North to be on the threshold of having the capability to strike anywhere in the continental US with a nuclear-tipped missile - a capacity that Trump and other US officials have said they would not tolerate.
