Detroit Pistons interview Michigan's John Beilein for coach job

Jason Kidd will interview with the Pistons on Saturday for their head coaching job, according to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports.

He spent four years in the Pistons' front office alongside president of basketball operations and head coach Stan Van Gundy, who was sacked last month. He spent three-plus seasons in Milwaukee, with a 139-152 record and two playoff appearances.

Beilein has no National Basketball Association coaching experience, but he's done a tremendous job since taking over the Michigan Wolverines in 2007. Detroit now has to fill both those roles.

ESPN first reported Beilein's interview with the Pistons. Just past year, MI was the nation's runner-up after a tough national title loss to a stacked Villanova program. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Pistons brought in longtime University of MI coach John Beilein for their coaching vacancy. They finished a disappointing 39-43 in 2017-18.

The Detroit Pistons and general manager Jeff Bower have parted ways, league sources told ESPN on Friday.

The Pistons are also reportedly considering Miami Heat assistant Juwan Howard - a former Fab Five star at MI - and TNT analyst Kenny Smith as they search for a replacement for Stan Van Gundy.

The Pistons are running concurrent searches for a head coach and possibly a new general manager. Van Gundy made final decisions on personnel in Detroit. Beilein interviewed for the job on Thursday, one day after the Wolverines netted a Top 35 recruit in the nation.
