Following their meeting in Singapore, the two leaders signed a declaration agreeing to "establish new U.S. - DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the population of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity".

After hours of discussions, the two men signed an agreement committing the United States to unspecified "security guarantees" in exchange for a denuclearized Korean peninsula. "Beautiful. Perfect", Trump said. Characterizing the exercises as needlessly provocative, Trump also indicated that he will be glad to reap the savings from what is an expensive operation.

The war games are very expensive, we pay for a big majority of them. "That is exactly the formation that the Chinese have asked for over the course of the past year, and we said absolutely not", Bremmer said. I know a lot about airplanes. "Otto did not die in vain", Trump said as he discussed North Korea's human rights record.

Pyongyang also reaffirmed its commitment to the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, while the USA pledged to provide security guarantees.

Trump downplayed Beijing's role in the denuclearization process. The language in the joint statement was weaker than in previous agreements - the very significant difference being that the North is now much further advanced in its nuclear programme.

A statement from Beijing today indicated its satisfaction with the outcome.

Trump's comments on Warmbier came after Vice President Mike Pence reassured the OH man's father when he spoke to him ahead of the Singapore summit.
