Los Angeles DA reviewing sexual assault case against Sylvester Stallone

An incident involving a woman and actor Sylvester Stallone from the 1990s is now under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department District Attorney's office.

Greg Risling, spokesman for the District Attorney's office, said that case was brought forward by the city of Santa Monica, Reuters reported.

Representatives for Stallone, 71, did not immediately return a call for comment on Wednesday. However, Stallone's attorney Martin Singer did confirm back in December that a woman filed a police report alleging Stallone raped her 27 years ago. A criminal allegation dating to the 1990s can not be charged under California law because it is past the statute of limitations that existed at the time.

Stallone is the latest in a string of stars to be accused of sexual misconduct in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

"We have already notified the police that my client wants to file a claim against the woman for filing a false police report", the rep told THR.

The second alleged incident of sexual assault involving Stallone was said to have happened in 1986 at a Las Vegas hotel.

Santa Monica police told reporters in December that they were investigating allegations made against the actor, but they didn't provide any further details. "At no time was Mr. Stallone ever contacted by any authorities or anyone else regarding this matter".

Singer said Stallone "categorically" disputed the claim at the time.
