Meghan Markle managed to make friends with Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II sits with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex during a ceremony to open the new Mersey Gateway Bridge on June 14, 2018 in the town of Widnes in Halton, Cheshire, England. For the occasion, Meghan wore a white dress, black belt and a matching shoulder cover by Givenchy, the same designer that made her wedding gown, while the Queen looked classy in a lime green suit.

It is not known when exactly the royal matriarch gave the jewellery to the American former actress, who married the Queen's grandson, Prince Harry, last month.

The Queen and the Duchess of Sussex arrive by Royal Train at Runcorn Station to carry out engagements in Cheshire.

This is the awkward moment Meghan was ushered into a auto by the Queen - after first offering to let the monarch go first. The Queen and Meghan watched a musical display by young members of the Andrew Curphey Theatre Company before the monarch unveiled a plaque for the official opening of the Mersey Gateway bridge.

Harper's Bazaar described the duchess's outfit as "the flawless Givenchy dress" for her first joint outing with the head of state, and branded the caped shoulders "divine".

"The role that she's taken on it's very austere, it's very sort of serious and I think there's a great weight that she has. acquired through that and she takes it very seriously", she said.

Last weekend, Meghan - alongside the rest of her new family - attended the Trooping the Colour: a 260-year-old tradition to honour the reigning monarch's birthday.

The royal couple, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will be making the tour around the time of the Invictus Games in Sydney, which is set for October 20-27.

A palace source says Meghan's balcony position "would have come from her".

The woman then told her to "give our love to Harry", to which the Duchess replied: "I will do".

MEGHAN Markle is to ditch Prince Harry for the first time to do a royal engagement - and will be even have a sleepover with the Queen.
