Microsoft's Next-Gen Xbox Will Arrive in 2020

Microsoft has been pelted with criticism for lacking hit video games exclusively for play on Xbox, while Sony has dominated this console generation with PlayStation 4 models boasting a cornucopia of coveted titles.

Our interest was piqued, therefore, when Phil Spencer took to the stage for the Xbox E3 conference and talked about the idea of being able to stream console quality games to any device.

According to techcrunch, the launch of the new games was the highlight of the event.

Featuring a setting based on the landscape of Great Britain, Forza Horizon 4 is also the first Forza Horizon game to feature a truly dynamic open-world environment - with weather and terrain conditions being altered by a new seasons-based weather system.

Instead, with the wealth of content shown at E3 2018, Microsoft is playing the long game here.

Essentially, the new service looks to be a streaming version the Xbox Game Pass that provided access to some major titles on Xbox One consoles for a monthly fee; think Netflix for Xbox games, only with the need to download the games rather than stream them. "For some people, that's a deal-breaker", Penrose said about the always-online requirement that some games have.

Below is the list of established studios bought by Microsoft to swell their ranks, and the quintet are certainly impressive.

Last week, Ubisoft founder Yves Guillemot said that the ability to play games on essentially anything with a display by streaming the game from a server was going to reshape the entire face of gaming.

At its press conference at the 2018 E3 Show, Microsoft revealed that it has bought Forza Horizon developer Playground Games and has letters of intent to acquire Ninja Theory, Undead Labs and Compulsion Games. But the company continues to put more resources into the Xbox consoles and its gaming business overall.

The acquisitions and new studio will give Microsoft a deeper slate of games in years to come.

"We commit the full breadth of resources at Microsoft to deliver on the future of play".

Microsoft is hard at work developing the future of gaming with artificial intelligence technology, Spencer said.

We often hear these days that Microsoft is on its way to become the next IBM, but the truth is hardware remains very important for the company.
