'Minor explosion' reported at north London tube station

London Mayor Sadiq Khan warned people to "avoid the area".

A police spokesman said: 'Southgate Tube station is now closed whilst officers respond to a suspicious package.

Officers were called to reports of a minor explosion and "people running" at Southgate Tube station shortly after 7pm on Tuesday.

Two people have been taken to hospital after reports of a "minor" explosion at Southgate Tube station.

"Officers are on scene alongside @metpoliceuk".

Police say no cause has yet been established.

"Don't know too much except we have been told to stay inside", he said.

Police add that the explosion "appears to have been minor", with no serious injuries believed to have occurred.

There is now no Piccadilly line service between Arnos Grove and Cockfosters. I could smell burning (like rubber) and saw multiple people hurrying for the exits.
