Mohamed Salah, Ali Gabr take part in national team training session

A big question mark hangs over the participation of Liverpool striker Salah, who is still receiving treatment for the shoulder injury he suffered in the Champions League final.

While Salah has talked up his hopes of starting against Uruguay in Yekaterinburg, Ehab Lehita, the Egyptian FA's managing director, said: "We're keeping an eye on the situation day by day".

Salah told reporters on Sunday that he expected to play against Uruguay, before he flew to Russian Federation with the rest of the Egyptian squad.

"There's a good degree of progress but no definitive decision on whether he takes part, as we are following his case day by day", he told reporters.

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah says that he was urged to break the Premier League scoring record by Didier Drogba. "However, I can not confirm today that he will play in the first match", Lehita said of the 25-year-old, who scored 44 goals for Liverpool last season.

But media reports in Egypt have speculated that the former Roma forward's availability for the opener is premature, and that he may not even feature for the Pharaohs until their third group game - a meeting with Saudi Arabia on June 25.

Team doctor Mohamed Abou al-Ela said over the weekend that Salah would not play "unless he has totally recovered".

It's Egypt first World Cup since 1990.

"I'm excited. God willing I'm well-prepared and things are going well and my morale is high", he told AFP on Sunday. 'We hope he will be with us for the Uruguay match'. So I thought to myself, I have quite a few games to play before the end of the season, I can break the all-time record!
