Russian President Vladimir Putin says he is ready to meet US President Donald Trump whenever Washington is ready.

Adding an extra layer of friction to the gathering, Trump suggested that Russian Federation - which was expelled following the annexation of Crimea - should be allowed to rejoin the group.

Trump's call also comes amid the continuing criminal and congressional investigations into what the USA intelligence community concluded was a campaign by Moscow to use propaganda and hacking to influence the 2016 US presidential election. "As soon as the USA side is ready, the meeting will take place, depending, of course, on my working schedule".

"I believe it's necessary to stop this creative babbling and shift to concrete issues related to real cooperation", Putin told reporters in the Chinese city of Qingdao, during a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

The show of unity was in stark contrast to the calamitous end to the Group of Seven meeting in Quebec City, after US President Donald Trump disowned a joint summit statement and lambasted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as "dishonest" and "weak".

Thanks to President Putin, bilateral ties have withstood the test of ever-changing global situation, Xi said, noting the deepened political and strategic mutual trust, great progress in pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and the enhanced friendship between the two peoples.

In the United States, Trump's comments drew criticism from some fellow Republicans, including Senator John McCain, who slammed Trump for treating Putin with "the deference and esteem that should be reserved for our closest allies". Our colleagues once refused to come to Russian Federation due to well-known reasons.

"We will be ready to greet them all in Moscow", he added.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said Russian Federation deserved to rejoin the group.

Taking stock of the on-going turmoil in war-ridden Afghanistan, Putin said, "It is crucial that we fight the terrorist threat emanating from that country in unison, curb drug production and trafficking and render aid to Afghanistan in its national reconciliation, economic revival and stabilisation".

"As soon as it is possible", he said when asked about the meeting's possible date.

The shift has yielded only modest economic benefits, with Russia's two-way trade with China still less than half what it is with Europe, but it has allowed Mr. Putin to slough off his country's isolation from the West.

He said: "I've always said that our country must remain within North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, but the sanctions are damaging us". "It's a one-time shot and I think it's going to work out very well".

The American leader has repeatedly said he wants to improve relationships with Moscow.

Trump suggested that Russian Federation be allowed back into the global group despite their continued occupation of Crimea.

He said that the USA exit from the nuclear deal warrants an "important and serious discussion between our two countries". "As long as the terrorists are active, the region will not achieve its development goals", said Rouhani, adding, "fighting terrorism requires full cooperation and coordination among all countries of the region".
