Royal Family Criticized Over Prince George’s Toy Gun

Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen dress for those festivities, and Prince William swapped yesterday's military garb for his polo uniform.

Sporting an off-the-shoulder striped dress by Zara, Kate had fun in the sun with two of her adorable kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, as they watched Prince William play in a polo match at the Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire, England.

As soon as the photos reached the interwebs, that's when Twitter lit up with criticism.

Prince George - wearing a navy shirt, beige shorts and navy sneakers - played around with a polo mallet in the grass.

But when Prince George tried to join in, he was quickly silenced by Savannah, who put her hand over the third in line to the throne's mouth.

One comment said: "This was the only disappointing thing about today's polo match photos".

Over the course of the day, the little royals could be seen playing with a huge slinky, a miniature golf set, arts and crafts and the controversial toy gun. "THAT is #girlpower", one person wrote. My American side here, biased maybe b/c of everyday gunviolence in US, but my British side agrees.

Other people called for the critics to understand that there is a big jump between playing with a toy gun and growing up to use a real gun. The royal family found themselves criticized for allowing their son a toy seen as an inappropriate in the wake of high-profile incidents of gun violence across the world. Thought he was a sensitive child. Better if he was seen playing with a toy vehicle or football. Sadly the royals will never change.??

On Saturday, the British royal family gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony for a grand parade and air show to mark Queen Elizabeth's official 92nd birthday.
