Scott Pruitt's Fancy-Pen-Buying Days Are Numbered

She becomes the second top Pruitt aide in two days to resign.

But Mr. Pruitt's boss, President Trump, appears to be satisfied. Sarah Greenwalt and Millan Hupp, longtime loyalists to Pruitt, both of whom received raises when Pruitt's team used a loophole in the Safe Drinking Water Act to pay for the raises after they were first rejected by the White House.

On Monday, the Washington Post reported that Pruitt asked a staffer to help him purchase a discounted used mattress from the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., as well as to help Pruitt apartment hunt and arrange Pruitt's personal vacations. "And you know, somebody has to say that about you a little bit". Though ultimately unsuccessful, the pursuit of a restaurant tops the list because it represents an attempt to use Scott Pruitt's position to establish a personal profit stream that could continue long after his time in office. EPA is doing so well.

Several leftist reporters, pundits, and politicians came out recently to attack Pruitt and subsequently call for him to drop out. The Washington Post reports.

"Scott Pruitt can not shift the blame for his scandals to his aides or career EPA employees, said Democratic Representative Don Beyer, a member of the House Natural Resources Committee". You have done, the EPA is doing so well, so many approvals and disapprovals... On the other hand, you may not remember that Pruitt also spent around $1,560 of taxpayer money on 12 fancy fountain pens, and roughly the same amount on fancy journals.

Pruitt is the target of a series of federal ethics investigations. Hupp and Greenwalt resigned this week, the reasons for their departures is still unclear.

Pruitt also faced backlash after a letter to GOP Representative Trey Goudy of SC, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, showed the EPA administrator told an aide to buy an old mattress from Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.

Their resignations leave Pruitt increasingly isolated at the EPA, where he has lost the confidence of most of the agency's career staff and many conservative political appointees who feel that Pruitt's ethical lapses have done a disservice to the President's agenda.
