Son of Ryan O’Neal, Farrah Fawcett charged with attempted murder

The son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly carrying out a string of violent attacks around Los Angeles.

CBS Los Angeles reports two men were seriously injured, including one who was stabbed in the face. He also was charged with possession of a smoking device, possession of an injection device and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to the district attorney.

LAPD officials said a man with "red hair and distinct tattoos" randomly attacked five men on May 2 and armed himself with a glass bottle. Police say a man matching O'Neal's description was seen on surveillance video near the scene.

O'Neal, 33, is alleged by police to have gotten into an argument and punched a stranger on the night of May 2.

"After O'Neal's arrest, the violent crime spree ended and Pacific Area robbery detectives found O'Neal strongly matched the description of the suspect in these crimes", LAPD officials said in the press release.

Police said they connected the earlier five crimes to the suspect while he was being held on the robbery charge. Scotty Stevens told the news station, adding that the crimes appeared to be random.

O'Neal is already in jail and is facing serious felony charges, including second-degree robbery for holding up a 7-11 in Santa Monica on May 8 at about 3 a.m. Authorities said Redmond threatened the convenience store clerk with a knife and demanded money. His father, Ryan O'Neal still acts - his most recent work was teaming up Love Story (1970 release) co-star Ali MacGraw in a stage play called Love Letters, in 2016.

Fawcett was a four-time Emmy Award nominee and six-time Golden Globe Award nominee who died of cancer in 2009.

According to the LAPD, the 33-year-old was charged Friday.

It was the latest addition to a criminal file for O'Neal, who has a troubled history of encounters with law enforcement, as well as a publicized battle with drug addiction. A man believed to be Redmond O'Neal is accused of then becoming angry and repeatedly punching the victim in his head and threw him to the ground before fleeing.
