What’s next for Triple Crown victor Justify?

What’s next for Triple Crown victor Justify?

Justify's Triple Crown is an wonderful accomplishment for Baffert, who also trained American Pharoah - the 2015 Triple Crown victor.

Now owned by WinStar Farm, China Horse Club, Starlight Racing and Head of Plains Partners, Justify defeated former United Kingdom galloper Gronkowski by just on two lengths with Hofburg back in third.

At 52, Smith is the oldest jockey to ever win the Triple Crown. "I was blown away", Mara said via the New York Post.

Justify paid $3.50 to place and $2.80 to show.

Factors that did in so many horses before Justify, like the Derby's 20-horse field, a sloppy track and blazing early pace, seemed only to make this year's Triple Crown victor stronger. That said, in nine starts he only has two wins and has never lived up to the hype that surrounded him as a two-year-old.

The white mane of Justify trainer Bob Baffert, horse whisperer to the stars, is now known the world over.

The big chestnut colt burst onto the national scene with a victory in the Kentucky Derby.

The chestnut colt became the second undefeated horse to sweep the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont, improving to 6-0 in a racing career that began on February 18. Baffert, 65, had less than a year to train Justify who suffered a minor injury and didn't race his second year. Justify became the first colt in 136 years to win the Derby after not racing as a 2-year-old.

Justify is taking on nine rivals, the largest number that a potential Triple Crown victor has ever faced.

"Why would you send a horse that breaks bad and take everybody out, then come back in?" the jockey questioned. But he (Justify) ran the whole mile and one half today, and he earned it (Triple Crown). "He's now become a household name, and I'm looking forward to his next race just as much as you guys are".

One owner believes that there was something suspicious about how the race was handled by Restoring Hope, a stablemate of Justify's, with both horses trained by Bob Baffert.

Those are the concerns, but for betting purposes, I truly think Justify is a freak of a horse and will contend in this race.

The B.C-based breeder of Triple Crown victor Justify says he and his family are honoured to be a part of history. He made a strong and sudden move along the inside while picking up horses rapidly on the second turn, got within easy striking distance of the leader nearing midstretch, but could not sustain the bid while racing a bit greenly and failing to change leads until deep stretch.

Gronkowski will draw some love from casual bettors that are also football fans, as his namesake is Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots (who is a part-owner of the horse). Three races over the course of five weeks, all at different locations and ranging from 1 3/16 to 1 1/2 miles, take a toll on even the most experienced horses.
