Xiaomi Redmi Y2 smartphone with dual rear cameras launched in India

The Apple of China- Xiaomi has unveiled a grand new device in New Delhi on Thursday.

"In a short span of six months, Redmi Y1 became the bestselling selfie phone in the country". The company had ignored the selfie segment before this and saw the likes of Vivo and Oppo capture the mindshare in that category.

The Y2 also comes equipped with the same core hardware, with the 625 SoC running the show.

What are your thoughts on the Redmi Y2?

Like its previous variants, the Redmi Y2 is supposed to be a youth-centric offering.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 will sport a 5.99-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The taller display allows more screen real estate while retaining the dimensions of the Redmi Y1 which had a 5.5-inch display. The smartphone also has a bigger battery than the Moto Z3 Play; coming in at 4000mAh. The price of the smartphone is not specified. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 3GB and 32GB storage. I said in my review that the M1 is a better value-for-money smartphone and that the industry needs good competition. The smartphone packs a 3080mAh battery which company claims to last for an entire day. The choice of microUSB over USB Type-C is disappointing though.

Overall, it really comes down to preference, if choosing between the two smartphones purely based on their camera capabilities. This helps in shooting better quality shots in low light by effectively reducing the noise.

For a budget smartphone, it does take quite good selfies for the usual social media purposes. The vertically stacked dual cameras have dual-tone LED flash support and offer Portrait mode, and EIS. Too much vanity, really.

The phone looks impressive in terms of specs and design both. It will also have a notch on top of the display, which will house a 5MP sensor and most probably boast face recognition feature. Bokeh photos are those where the subject is in focus and the background is blurred. Xiaomi has also revealed timelines for the MIUI 10 launch of the China Developer ROM along with the list of eligible devices. For a smooth UI experience, the Moto Z3 Play will be launched with Android 8.1 Oreo and will offer a near-stock Android experience. The Redmi S2 will launch in India on June 7, Xiaomi has confirmed on Twitter.

According to the information of sources, the smartphone is likely to come in 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants, however, the 4 GB variant could have 64GB of internal storage while the 6GB RAM variant could have 128GB of internal storage.
