At least 8 dead after tourist boat incident

The Stone County Sheriff confirms the eight fatalities. They have not yet announced further details on the accident and said it is too early to tell how many people are missing.

"Sustained winds over 40 mph, lightning, moderate rain and lowered visibility to as low as 2 miles may have contributed to this incident", said weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Belles.

A dive team is assisting.

Injured people were taken to hospital after the "Ride the Ducks" amphibious vehicle capsized on the lake near Branson, Missouri, the district said on Twitter.

The "Ride the Duck" boats are amphibious vehicles, taking tourists on a tour of the Branson area and onto Table Rock Lake for about 20 minutes.

"We did have a severe thunderstorm, not sure if that is the contributing factor", he said.

Crews classify the incident as a "mass casualty" incident that involved a tourist boat.

Mr Rader said he did not know how many people were killed and divers were on the scene searching for passengers, KY3 News reported. Rogers also said the area had experienced bad weather, with a storm coming through the area rapidly.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
