Genesio: Fekir Will Leave Lyon If Given An Opportunity

Liverpool insist their interest in the player has ended but we would't be surprised if they went on to sign him if Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas agrees to cover medical insurance premiums in relation to the player's knee which was flagged up during his medical.

France global Fekir was set to join the Reds for around £53m but the switch collapsed at the last minute due to medical concerns.

Lyon will compete in the Champions League next season after finishing third in Ligue 1 last season, largely down to the impressive performances of Nabil Fekir.

Nabil Fekir is now with France at the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.

'I have nearly a father-son relationship with my players.

'I have nearly a father-son relationship with my players, I gave him the chance to go to Liverpool because it was his dream club. I did it with [Corentin] Tolisso and [Samuel] Umtiti, he is our captain and it is the coach's wish to keep him'.

Liverpool have already made two significant additions to their squad with Naby Keita arriving on Merseyside after a deal was struck with RB Leipzig last summer, with Fabinho also joining from Monaco.

Before any transfer takes place Fekir will be hoping to help steer France into the World Cup Final, with a semi-final tie against Belgium next for Les Bleus.

And Klopp has suggested the club's work this summer might not be done yet. "We must not let our best players leave".

'While other clubs are interested, he will be with us next year in the middle. We will see after the World Cup.
