This is mainly because of the overlap of smartphones from both series. Reportedly, Samsung realizes this and has set a modest goal of just 12 million units for the Note9.

According to previous reports, it has been suggested that the S Pen, will receive its "biggest update ever" for the Galaxy Note smartphone.

In hindsight, there is not much difference between the current Galaxy S and Note series of smartphones.

Galaxy S9 and Note 8

No news if the watch will use Tizen or Android as the operating system, but traditionally the Galaxy branding is associated with Android within Samsung. While it might seem counterintuitive to release two flagships as they might compete against each other, the Galaxy S and Note series are aimed at different kinds of users. In a related news, industry sources state that Samsung Display is planning to build a pilot line in Asan, Korea for the production of foldable OLED display panel and will enter into operation soon after that. However, nothing can be said for sure. Apart from that, it looks like Galaxy Note 9 will have a dual-camera setup as well. Yet, if the pre-bookings and two weeks of sales in Q1 are indeed higher than the three-month sales in Q2, then it points to an acute underperformance by the latest Galaxy flagship devices. As the device will have support for Bluetooth, the S Pen could be used for triggering a long-range remote self-timer and for controlling music playback as well.

After we've seen patent filings for trademarks, logo hints and endless speculation regarding what software the next smartwatch will run, we now have another report, this time from ZDNet, which indicates the device will be unveiled on 9 August ahead of a full release on 24 August.
