Olympic figure skating medallist Denis Ten stabbed to death

Olympic bronze medal-winning figure skater Denis Ten has reportedly died in his home nation of Kazakhstan after being stabbed.

Ten, 25, was knifed during a struggle with two men he had caught trying to steal the mirrors on his vehicle in the Kazakh city of Almaty on Thursday.

Figure skater Denis Ten, of Kazakhstan, reacted, February 16, as his score was posted following his performance in the men's short program figure skating, in the Gangneung Ice Arena at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Gangneung, South Korea.

"Unfortunately, he is not with us anymore", a Kazakhstan government spokesman said.

"He was a great ambassador for his sport, a warm and charming person". The men stabbed him in the thigh, causing him to lose over six pints of blood.

He finished 27th at those Games, after having only been able to train at low intensity in the run-up.

Denis Ten was the first figure-skater from Kazakstan to win an Olympic medal.

Russian Olympic silver medalist Evgenia Medvedeva has expressed her condolences to the family of deceased Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten, saying she "can't believe" the news about his death.

The International Skating Union tweeted it was "deeply saddened by the news". He was also a two-time medalist at the world championships and was an immensely popular victor of the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Seoul in 2015. "Our deepest condolences go out to Denis' family and friends, and the worldwide skating family".

The murder has led to mourning across Kazakhstan, while also prompting calls on social media for the resignation of interior minister Kalmukhanbet Kassymov.

American figure-skater Adam Rippon said on Twitter that Ten was "a huge inspiration to me and so many other people". "You will be greatly missed, Denis".
