Target Says Its ‘Prime Day’ Sale Was A Success

In a recent press release highlighting its success, the company didn't disclose sales growth or exact figures but reported that Prime members bought more than 100 million products during the sales event.

The online retailer experienced "technical glitches", as well as some disappointed Australian consumers, during the flash sale, sparking the twitter hashtag, #PrimeDayFail.

Just as Amazon Prime Day 2018 began, the whole thing went to the dogs.

This year's Prime Day wasn't off to the best start for Amazon as the website quickly started failing for many of its customers. The Fire TV Stick with the Alexa Voice Remote and the Echo Dot were the bestselling devices.

Mobile surpassed browser shopping. Before Prime Day, the retail think tank Coresight Research predicted sales would reach $3.4 billion, about $1 billion more than previous year. And despite the tech issues, Amazon's stock gained 1.2 per cent to $1843.93 as of close of trade on July 17.

Amazon Milton Keynes general manager Scott Wharton, said: "We've had a great day of fun here at Amazon in Milton Keynes with circus games and prizes". Best Buy, eBay, Macy's, Nordstrom, and Walmart also offered special deals on Prime Day. Some 89% of shoppers were aware it was Prime Day before they shopped on Amazon, the remainder were not.

Moreover, the growing demand for convenience and the desire to stay updated with the latest trends has been driving consumer spending to record levels, a major plus point for e-tailers like Amazon. Over 50,000 participating small and medium-sized businesses saw an average growth of 240% this Prime Day over an average dayin June.

"Given Amazon's prodigious spending, it is safe to say that any day compared to the prior year should be much better from a sales perspective", Moody's analyst Charles O'Shea said.

Amazon kept shoppers on their site and away from competing retailers. We're seeing Amazon continue to recognize this changing dynamic as it further blurs the line between online and offline commerce offerings. Target's one-day sale made Tuesday its most successful sales day of the year.
