Toronto shooting: Gunman opens fire in Greektown - multiple casualties

Toronto Paramedic Services confirmed that at least 9 people have been taken to area hospitals, though there was no immediate word on their conditions.

Canadian police and emergency personnel services are responding to a shooting that reportedly involves multiple victims in the downtown Toronto neighbourhood known as Greektown.

Witnesses described a man dressed in black firing a gun multiple times, reported The Star.

Witnesses say they heard more than a dozen shots ring out in what is a busy restaurant strip about 10pm local time (12.30pm AEST). It is unknown if the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, or if there was any kind of confrontation with police.

A child is also thought to be among the victims.

A 54 Division spokesperson told Global News the shooting happened in the Danforth and Logan avenues area, and was reported just after 10 p.m. Patients are spread across several blocks in the area.

Police are warning people to stay away from the area.
