Ben Schwartz Reveals He Will Voice Sonic The Hedgehog In Upcoming Movie

Sonic is a snarky but entertaining little piece of shit, a character trope that Schwartz is synonymous with. He's also done voice work for the video game Turbo: Super Stunt Squad, and appeared in the television series, Parks and Recreation.

Envisioned as a synthesis of live-action and CGI, the film is to center around Sonic and his friends Tails the fox and Knuckles the echidna. There's Dewy from the new Duck Tales, who is blue.

Schwartz is not new to the voice acting game, now starring as Dewey Duck on the Disney Channel reboot of Duck Tales and will voice Leonardo in Nickelodeon's upcoming Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Schwartz is certainly an in-demand voice actor now, and perhaps not coincidentally, this facet of his career really took off after the actor lent his voice to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You can find out more about that over here.

The actor confirmed that he would play longtime Sonic nemesis Doctor Robotnik, and that he was involved in a live-action capacity, according to a recent report.

Considering the unique look of Robotnik, as you can see above, people have been curious how they're going to pull off this character in the movie. In addition to Carey, the movie features James Marsden (Westworld) and Tika Sumpter (Ride Along). Hopefully we'll be hearing more about this perplexing movie as production continues.

Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to start filming this year, with a planned release date of November 15, 2019. The film is set to be directed by Jeff Fowler, who previously worked on the Oscar-nominated Gopher Broke.
