James Bond: Door open for Idris Elba to be ‘first black 007’

Idris Elba's filmography proves that he can play any role he damn well wants to.

As for Elba's own ideas about who could be the next Bond, earlier this year he discussed the idea of a woman taking on the role with Variety.

But the actor has denied the claims on several occasions, and has also said that it's time for a woman to take on the role instead. "Idris could do it if he was in shape", Fuqua said. "It could be a woman - could be a black woman, could be a white woman - but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have...do something different with it, why not?"

Other actors whose names have been suggested to take over the role of 007 include McMafia star James Norton, Tom Hardy, and Poldark's Aidan Turner.

After two years of speculation, Daniel Craig announced last August that he will return to play James Bond for a fifth time.

Universal Pictures also won the global distribution rights to the film, which will drop in the United Kingdom first on October 25, 2019.

According to reports in The Independent, producer Barbara Broccoli has hinted the door is open for a black Agent 007 in the future. MGM will distribute the film domestically while Universal Pictures will handle worldwide distribution.

He did, however, say it was up to the studio whether he would be a fit for the role, and in 2015 commented he would "absolutely" become Bond if asked. No, not at the moment.
