Keeper Kepa completes big money move to Chelsea

Kepa's buyout clause has been met by Chelsea, with the Athletic Bilbao keeper expected to move for around £72m.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is eligible to play against Huddersfield on Saturday after completing his record move to Chelsea.

Chelsea have made Kepa their number one target to replace Thibaut Courtois.

Just weeks after Liverpool broke the record transfer fee for a goalkeeper in a deal worth up to 72.5 million euros for Brazilian global Alisson Becker, the inexperienced Kepa, 23, now inherits the title of the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

"Athletic thank the player for his contribution throughout the time he has been at the club". The midfielder will join Jorginho in Chelsea's midfield who joined the Blues from Napoli.

But it is not just Kepa's transfer fee that will raise eyebrows, as Chelsea have agreed to pay the 23-year-old roughly £10m-a-year over seven years - taking the total value of the transfer to £141.6m.

In January, Madrid were set to meet his then-release clause of €20m as it looked increasingly unlikely that Navas would be renewing his contract with Madrid.

"It's a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life", Kepa told the club's official website.

The Golden Glove victor will then undergo medicals on Thursday and will be presented as a Real Madrid player at 1:00 PM local time. The 26-year-old, named the best goalkeeper at the World Cup as Belgium finished third, has one year remaining on his contract and reportedly wishes to join Real Madrid. Transfer fee for the Belgian's move has not been disclosed by the clubs.

He will move to Stamford Bridge as a replacement for Belgium worldwide Thibaut Courtois, who earlier this evening sealed his long anticipated move to European Champions Real Madrid.
