Man Utd need two deadline day deals - Rooney

It is time for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed.

FIFA are formulating plans for a consistent transfer deadline across world football, which would aid Premier League sides after their setback this year. Ivan Perisic, the Croatia global, also featured prominently on Mourinho's wish list but it now seems that United's summer transfer business will be restricted to the arrivals of Fred, the injured Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant, signed from Stoke City as a third-choice goalkeeper.

"Other teams go up and down, we want to try to win one point more than the others".

When asked if he was happy for City to be favourites, he said: "Since nine years I live with that situation, it's no problem".

Mourinho warned last weekend that a "difficult season" could lie ahead if they failed to strengthen the squad before the deadline.

Mourinho will have to decide whether or not to pick Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini against Leicester after they returned from post-World Cup break on Monday.

Jerome Boateng was another option but Bayern Munich have not been keen to sanction a loan move. "[Sergio] Romero, [Antonio] Valencia, Marcos Rojo, [Diogo] Dalot, Ander Herrera, [Nemanja] Matic [are injured] and I think that's it".

"[Alexis is] more than ready but you can not have the players who arrived only last Monday after the World Cup semi-finals or final and three weeks' holiday".

Pre-season has clearly been a frustrating time for Mourinho, while a perceived lack of respect for leading his side to second spot last term has got under his skin.

"They returned on Monday, trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today so you can imagine they are not really fit and ready but we have needs", Mourinho said. "I'm not here to say we have to win by 20 points", Guardiola said at a news conference on Friday.

The Portuguese believes runners-up are often portrayed as if they have been relegated and those who finish below them are presented as "serial winners".

"Like any big club, they need some silverware - in his first season at Old Trafford, 2016-17, Mourinho won two trophies - the League Cup and Europa League - but he won nothing last season".

"It will be a hard season for everybody, not just for us".
