Manchester United's Jose Mourinho not confident of new signings before deadline

Manchester United's Jose Mourinho not confident of new signings before deadline

"I'm not confident and the market closes today so it is time, at least for me, to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed, so I will have to focus on the players I have".

Manchester United are continuing to try and sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham in a saga which could run right up until the transfer deadline.

It was reported earlier this week that Manchester United would be forced to pay Jose Mourinho a whopping £12 million if they made a decision to sack him this season.

Manchester United have signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant this summer.

Liverpool have invested heavily over the summer as they look to pose a challenge to last season's runaway champions, Manchester City, but the same can't be said for United. "When I listen, when I read, not much but sometimes I do, is hard to believe that we finished second, because you are capable of making people that finish second look like they were relegated, and people who win nothing, finish below us, and you make them look like serial winners".

'It is hard for me to understand we finish second which I keep saying, that I won eight championships and three Premier Leagues but I keep feeling the second last season was one of my biggest achievements in the game'.

Do you see Man United challenging for the title season?

And Mourinho will have a meeting after training today with the players who have only just reported back for duty after their post World Cup breaks to see who feels fit enough to play at Old Trafford tomorrow.

"I can understand his frustration, because every manager wants a bigger and better pool of players than they have already got".

"The manager is obviously not happy about the signings he hasn't been able to make and not having certain players available on their pre-season tour, which isn't nice to hear if you are a young kid trying to make your mark on the fringes of the squad".

Castles said: "Everton, I'm told, have agreed a fee with Barcelona".
