National Football League preseason quickly claims promising Redskins rookie

In 2017, Washington was bit pretty hard by the injury bug. Gruden has said there's competition for the No. 1 job along with Thompson, who's coming back from a broken fibula. Thompson got 64 carries in his 10 games previous year, and could be looking at a similar number of rushes per game with Guice out for the season.

The former LSU star was fourth on the Redskins' depth chart at running back, but was expected to have a significant role this season.

Guice was injured in Washington's preseason opener at New England on Thursday night.

Instead, Guice's National Football League career starts with a medical redshirt.

Perine had been mentioned as a possible cut earlier this summer, and while that's unlikely to happen now, it should give us an idea as to what the coaching staff thinks of him. It also could be a tandem effort with Robert Kelley, who has started before.

Tom Brady's contract will get a major boost in value if the five-time Super Bowl champion posts another strong season in 2018, according to a report Thursday.

The 41-year-old's current deal has two years worth $41 million left that runs through the 2019 campaign, which has left the door open to what the Patriots will do after this upcoming season as he will be in his final year.

In Weeks 11-17, Perine averaged 2.65 yards after contact per attempt, ranking 12th among running backs with at least 100 attempts in said span.
