Ruby Rose will be playing Batwoman for CW show

Ruby Rose admits to being pretty emotional about her new role as Batwoman, which it turns out she's been practicing for her whole life.

Rose was concerned that when reporters asked what she had planned next she'd accidentally blurt out Batwoman "or just start crying and they'll think, 'She doesn't look so good.' But I'm so thrilled".

In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she recalled her reaction: "I kept, like, spontaneously crying. I feel like the reason I kept getting so emotional is because when I was growing up watching TV, I never saw someone I could identify with, let alone a superhero".

Rose, 32, is best known for her role as Stella Carlin in the Netflix prison drama series Orange Is The New Black.

"And I've always had this saying. well, not me, but Oscar Wilde. which is be yourself because everyone else is taken". I'm not a guy; I don't really feel like a woman, but obviously I was born one.

Rose will make her debut as the Gotham vigilante in this December's three-way, Legends-less Arrowverse crossover event, and then potentially front her own standalone series (currently in development at The CW).

It also, Rose noted, will allow her to continue her charity work of visiting children in hospitals with a whole new persona. "It's an incredible opportunity", she told Fallon.

The character of Batwoman first appeared in comic books as a romantic interest for Batman.

Per the logline, as quoted by the magazine: 'Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence'. But don't call her a hero yet.
