Singer Aretha Franklin gravely ill in hospital

The "Queen of Soul" is in hospice care at her home, a source close to the singer told CNN's Don Lemon.

Houstonians are sharing their thoughts and prayers with the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin after learning of her grave illness Monday. "Please keep her, the family and her longtime support staff in your prayers". "We just want to send love and prayers".

News that the 76-year-old Franklin is gravely ill has spread all over the world.

The soul singer has been dogged by reports of failing health for years and appeared frail in recent photos, but she has kept her struggles private.

"She was telling me she rides around the city every now and then - she talks about how handsome it is again", Fakir said.

Reports have come out today that musical legend Aretha Franklin, who announced her plans to retire previous year, is "gravely ill" in her home in Detroit. Earlier this year, she canceled a pair of performances, including at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, on doctor's orders, according to Rolling Stone.

Rev. Bill Lawson met Franklin in 1967 when she came to Houston with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1960, she signed with her first major record label. I know millions of people have heard her music and heard her voice and been touched by her spirit.

An 18-time Grammy victor, numerous reports about Franklin's health in the past months have had her either seriously ill or completely fine. President George W. Bush awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. Her final public performance was in Philadelphia in August 2017.

And in January 2009, Franklin sang at Barack Obama's presidential inauguration. "I'll have more details as I'm allowed to release".
