Tommy Fleetwood's £120,000 Open winnings sent to wrong Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood's £120,000 Open winnings sent to wrong Tommy Fleetwood

The Tommy Fleetwood who did not earn a winning share of the Open - is apparently a pro golfer in Florida and according to The Guardian was "born in 1959 - has tried to qualify for seniors events in Europe in the recent past".

The REAL Tommy Fleetwood, who missed out on his payday.

British golfer Tommy Fleetwood continued what has been a strong 2018 season with a 12th place finish at The Open Championship at Carnoustie last month.

"My friend Tommy is club pro at the Streamsong Resort in Central Florida and I was with him there today when he received a notification on his cellphone", Thorner, a teaching pro from Tampa, said. He was not positive it was the same amount that Tommy won at the Open but we checked and it was.

This being said, he might want to give the relevant PGA offices a ring to check if they've got his proper bank details ahead of the next tournament!

'My friend Tommy is a good guy and would always pay it back.

Caddie Fleetwood told Reuters he was trying to get in touch with English world number 11 to put the player's mind at ease that the money would be refunded.

"It looks pretty genuine and they (the European Tour) are looking into it and I'm sure they'll feel pretty bad about it".

The tour have apologised to both Fleetwoods, while the better known one's wife and manager Clare was off to check their bank account.

"I wouldn't even know if I'd been paid or not because I don't really look", Fleetwood said.

'It's a amusing story.

"It was only for $14 or something but he called it up and looked at his statement, and that's when he shouted 'Holy smoke, I've just had £154,000 paid into my account!'"

Hs is now preparing to play at this week's USPGA Championship at Bellerive in Missouri.
