Lloris was convicted for drink-driving after being pulled over in his vehicle and breathalysed - which revealed he had over double the legal alcohol limit in his system while at the wheel.

When officers stopped the vehicle, they found vomit and said Lloris had to be helped from the auto.

The World Cup victor suffered the injury during August's win over Manchester United. He will miss the game against Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday, as will Dele Alli, who picked up a hamstring injury on global duty. He said he was guilty of this situation. He made a mistake & has suffered the punishment of society.

"Of course he's punishing himself".

"Of course we had a conversation and he explained all that happened", said Pochettino. Only we need to try, how he understands that it was a mistake. It is a massive lesson for everyone. I made a mistake. Like a man that he is, he is going to accept everything'.

Spurs had a 100 per cent record after the first three games of the season, securing wins against Newcastle United, Fulham and Manchester United, with the Frenchman ever present.

Lloris' solicitor said: "By 2am he was completely drunk".

'He already knew in the moment that it was a big mistake. Of course he is lucky there was no effect.

"It's a massive lesson for everyone. Now, because he is clever, he learns and he is going to move on".

For Pochettino, it is the latest in a series of complications at the beginning of this campaign.

The Spurs captain has been with the club since 2012.

"I am disappointed", Pochettino added. I have to stay focused on the most important things to me, the pitch, my friends, my family.

The 22-year-old midfielder could also be ruled out of next Tuesday evening's (Wednesday morning AEST) UEFA Champions League opener away to Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Spurs duo of Sissoko and Foyth is expected to return to training next week after a hamstring and thigh respectively.

Alli suffered a slight muscle strain in England's Nations League defeat to Spain last weekend.
