FedEx Cup to offer $15 million to 2019 victor

FedEx Cup to offer $15 million to 2019 victor

The unofficial US PGA Tour event, to be held at Metropolitan Golf Club from November 22-25, has come under heavy scrutiny since the top 28 eligible players were revealed last week.

"Well, the "W" category doesn't compare to some of the years I've had where I've won eight or nine times in a year, but to have come off the last few years of inactivity and to be able to have qualified for East Lake and to be as consistent as I've been and to have put together a game from pretty much nothing, that's something I'm very proud of", Woods added.

The only thing left to cap off a remarkable comeback would be a trophy. The FedEx Cup playoffs are reduced from four events to three, with the victor of the Tour Championship being the FedEx Cup champion. It was all over Bryson DeChambeau at the Dell Technologies Championship, projecting him as a top contender from the start despite being a 33-1 long shot. This year, Dustin Johnson had the most points in the regular season by 83 points over Thomas.

While Smith would secure a $US10 million bonus if he was to pull off the inconceivable and become the first Australian to win the title, he would also bank $US1.6 million for the tournament. The top 10 players in the FedEx Cup during the regular season are part of a separate $10 million bonus program that pays $2 million to the No. 1 player. Spieth won in 2015 and was No. 7 going into the Tour Championship the following year. Bradley posted three top-10 finishes before the BMW Championship, where returned to the winner's circle. For Woods, this one felt even better because of the dry, tougher conditions at East Lake. Woods had the lead on the 11th hole at the British before fading to a tie for sixth. He had six finishes in the top 10. I didn't know how many tournaments I'd play in and the next [thing] you know I'm here in the Tour Championship. The Tour Championship is his 18th event, his busiest schedule to date since 2012.

One huge surprise the model is calling for in its 2018 Tour Championship picks: Woods, the only player to win the FedEx Cup a couple of times, makes a strong run but falls just short of winning the title.

"That's the only wave I've ever missed", said Woods, who sat out the Saturday morning session, and ended up halving the last of 12 singles matches as Europe rallied from a four-point deficit to win.

Bradley will win the FedEx Cup if he wins at East Lake and DeChambeau does anything other than a solo second. He finished 11th in the standings and was as easy choice as a captain's pick by Jim Furyk.

Spieth is the only American on the Ryder Cup team not at East Lake. On five under after the first-round 65 of the Tour Championship, the 14-time major-winner is alongside Rickie Fowler, another star in the USA team who will descend on Paris looking for their first victory on European soil in 25 years.
