Fletcher, Bailey named to initial 2019 Hall of Fame nominees list

The Pro Football Hall of Fame released its list of 102 modern-era nominees for the Class of 2019, and nine retired members of the New York Giants made the initial cut.

He finished his career with the most career receptions (1,325), receiving yards (15,127) and 100-yard receiving games (31) by a tight end in National Football League history, and the second-most touchdown receptions (111) behind only the Los Angeles Chargers' Antonio Gates (114).

Over 17 seasons with Kansas City (1997-08) and the Atlanta Falcons (2009-13), Gonzalez earned 14 Pro Bowl selections (1999-08, 2010-13) and 10 first- or second-team All-Pro honors from the Associated Press. Both are already in the school's hall of fame.

Among those nominated, several belong to the list of the 80 Greatest Redskins, including wide receiver Gary Clark, running back Earnest Byner, kick and punt returner Brian Mitchell, offensive tackle Chris Samuels, running back Clinton Portis and defensive coordinator/head coach Richie Petitbon. Dolphin fans will recognize a few former fan favorites on the list.

The roster of nominees consists of 47 offensive players, 39 defensive players, five special teams players and 11 coaches.

Also on the ballot are former Chiefs coaches Marty Schottenheimer and Dick Vermeil. The list will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November then 15 finalists in January.

The 2019 Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony will be held next August in Canton, Ohio.
