Huawei Foldable 5G smartphones are launching in 2019

Other than Huawei other Chinese smartphone companies have also announced plans to launch 5G equipped phones including Oppo and Vivo. Huawei's Chairman Ken Hu revealed the information speaking at the World Economic Forum.

Huawei knows that two major upcoming trends in smartphones will be folding screens and 5G connectivity, and they want to jump on that bandwagon ASAP.

Huawei has previously confirmed that it is developing a folding phone, which it will release in 2019.

5G phones are expected to deliver 100 times faster data connectivity than 4G networks.

Hu said, "At 100 times faster than today, [buyers] are also going to enjoy an awesome high-definition video experience with a big screen on your smartphone". It is speculated that the Kirin 980 which is the world's first 7nm chipset will be powering the handset. Hu said that the company's first 5G smartphone will also be its foldable device. 5G will offer more bandwidth for HD streaming, low latency for cloud-based AI, and IoT support for all of the new smart home devices that we've seen in the past couple of years. The modem was unveiled at the IFA 2018 tech trade show. The smartphone is expected to come with 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port. Huawei Mate 20 Pro is also rumoured to come with wireless charging support as well. Various display makers such as Japan Display, Samsung Display and LG Display have been working on flexible OLED screens since several years.

Huawei is chasing down Samsung after outstripping Apple by number of phone shipments earlier this year.

Foldable Screens will be a huge step now in mobile technology innovation that will increase sales and boost the smartphone market. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is expected to come with a triple rear camera setup and is said to be backed by a 4,230 mAh battery.
