In France, the auto flew into a crowd of people

According to police, on Friday, the 32-year-old man sent his auto to the visitors of a local bar who were on the sidewalk in front of the school.

However, his white Peugeot ran into barriers set up for the town's annual grape-harvesting festival featuring bull-fighting which attracts thousands of people.

Witness reports state the man shouted the religious phrase during the incident.

Police in southern France arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly sent his vehicle into pedestrians. The two people injured were not in serious condition.

Witnesses said the man had tried to flee the scene but had been stopped by bystanders before being arrested by police at 1.30am. Police said the suspect's motives were unclear and nothing can be ruled out.

The 36-year-old driver, known to police services for previous petty crimes, suffered "mental confusion" when he was arrested. The anti-terrorism police weren't thinking about the investigation at this stage, they stated.

France has been on high alert following a string of jihadist attacks in recent years.

The barriers were in place to prevent such attacks and prevented greater casualties, local security officers said.
